How the gift reaches the order

When the shopper adds a tier with a gift, Happy Bundle adds the gift product to the cart with the rest of the order. At checkout Shopify's discount takes the gift's price to $0, and the gift shows as its own line, so your stock for the gift product updates as usual.

How do I automatically add a free gift to the cart on Shopify?

Shopify's own Buy X get Y discount does not add the free item for the shopper. With Happy Bundle you add a gift to a quantity break tier, or set a gift for a cart amount, and the app adds the gift to the cart for the shopper.
